Hey kids – if you use Faktortel (or even other providers), make sure you allow re-invites in your Asterisk iax.conf for that connection. Otherwise bad stuff happens. We recently discovered that if we didn’t allow re-inviting for Faktortel then we’d occasionally get one way audio or no connection. You see they have a group of servers (not just one) that each time you lookup iax.faktortel.com.au will give you a different address so that they can spread the load.
But on the same note – don’t go mad and allow inviting for everyone – bad stuff goes on when you’re behind a NAT and your extension tries to make its own connection to the remote host – where does the data flow? Nobody knows…. some say it gets stuck behind the couch…
