For an upcoming project we have been asked to integrate some blutooth sensing functionality. To get this off the ground we developed these cool nodes to test with.

M.U.L.E. is a robotic following cart we are building from a mobility scooter base. M.U.L.E. will be fully automated, controlled by an Arduino, using sensors to avoid obstacles.

He has a front sensor at the moment so he can approach objects, and back up when he is too close. This is mainly to test our control over the heavy duty motors and control systems.

Next up: Rear and side sensors and steering/following functionality.

For a new project in development, “Auto Auto”, we are modding a remote controlled car to sense and avoid obstacles on it’s own.

With an Arduino and ultrasonic distance sensor on board this little guy drives himself!

This hacked $2 Mustang is the fruits of one afternoon’s tinkering.

We hope to develop and refine the model and replicate the results across multiple body types to experiment with interplay between them.

We are also looking at a large scale version of this with a mobility scooter we recently found.

A new project in development we have installed in our front window.

A wall of bricks made of perspex containing rgb leds rigged in a 5×5 grid controlled by an Arduino.

Getting really awesome results so far, looking forward to playing around more with colours and patterns!

This little guy now lives in our studio window.

He uses super capacitors as an energy source, which means he can’t run for long without having to head back to his charging rail.

The super capacitors allow him to fully charge in a matter of seconds (10 amps charge rate!) so he can get on his way.

He uses the line as his track to follow using an IR brightness sensing bar.

We modified our kitchen sliding door to open and close automatically on the press of a button. We also programmed the door to partially open when forced and automatically close again after a short period of time, allowing our cat to let himself in with the door closing behind him!
In future we plan to hide all the electronics inside the wall but for now we are enjoying the rawness on if it. Very cool.
